February 10-14, 2014

Let me start off with the fact that I get to work with the best students and parents ever! After half of the parent conferences were canceled due to weather, I still had 15 show up the next day and 3 rescheduled this week. I have AMAZING parents!! Thank y'all!!!

This week was full of catching up, 100th Day and Valentine's Day!

Groundhogs & Football

Not only did we study the Chinese New Year last week, we also learned about Groundhog's Day and the Super Bowl.

For Groundhog's Day, we read one of my favorite books, Gregory's Shadow.

Then we made and graphed our predictions. We also explained our predictions in a writing activity.

We also learned about football and the two teams in Super Bowl XLVIII. I put together a PowerPoint and who knew there was so much math in football. Between roman numerals, length of the football field and scoring in football, it felt like a math lesson (I love integration!) We then made predictions about who would win. Finally, we predicted the final score and explained our predictions.

Whew...this was a busy week. Next week, we celebrate 100th Day and the Sochi Olympics. See y'all later!

Here We Go...

I've been wanting to try blogging about my classroom for a long time, but haven't started. This is my first year teaching 2nd grade and I {LOVE} it! I love talking about technology and classroom management. I know...the 2 topics are not always thought of together but I love them both.

This week in class we have been studying Chinese New Year. We started by learning about China. Then we moved on to discuss celebrating Chinese New Year and the lunar calendar. We decided to make lanterns as our craft. The day we made lanterns, we had a cold morning and snow soooo I only had 18 kiddos at school.

Here are our lanterns drying!

Well, that's it for now. Have a great day y'all!
